The oil-collecting bee genus Lanthanomelissa is specialized in one single botanical genus, and it is endemic to South American Grasslands. The genus and these grasslands are severely understudied. In this work, we present a dated molecular phylogeny for Lanthanomelissa. We employed biogeographic analyses, to infer the age of the Southern Grasslands as similar to the origin of the genus, aside from proposing that the diversification of these bees could be related to the expansion of grasslands in South America.
